Summary Description:

The marine geologist will have a solid knowledge base of coastal hazard services, including emergency response management, hazard mitigation, and environmental hazard prevention.

Responsibilities:

Tasks will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Assist on projects that include:
    • Emergency response management
    • Hazard mitigation
    • Coastal and marine policy
    • Environmental hazard prevention, control and remediation
  • Support planning and design for coastal, climate and environmental engineering
  • Research, evaluate, and develop new and alternatives to help avoid coastal hazards
  • Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Marine Science, Engineering, Biology, Oceanography, GIS, Remote Sensing, or related field, and a minimum of 4 years of directly related experience
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently within general guidelines and direction
  • Demonstrate history of self-motivation and use of problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Applies knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of and experience with coastal hazard services
  • Experience working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
